Phonics?
Phonics is a way of teaching children to read and write by matching the sounds of spoken English to individual or groups of letters.
At Faith Primary Academy, we believe that Phonics should be ‘hands on’ and fun in order to encourage your child to develop a positive relationship with reading and writing.
We follow the Read Write Inc programme of Phonics.
In June, Year 1 children take a short test called a ‘Phonics Screening Check’. This allows teachers to assess the children’s progress in reading and recognising sounds. Please see the information below regarding this.
